![]() It’s always a challenge to pick just one car at these shows. We’re really happy with the way it turned out. For the award we decided to build a billet award design that our father used for some of the Pro’s Pick awards he used to give out. Lots of great cars to choose from and we’re glad Good Guys continues to support this award in memory of our father. The weather was a little chilly but not enough to scare anyone away. This is the 4th year my brother Gregg and I have given out the Boyd Coddington Memorial Award at the Good Guys Del Mar show. Now the only thing 3pc wheels have over 2pc wheels is the ability to chrome the wheels. Both our centers and our outers are made of 6061 aluminum unlike most 3pc rim shells that are made of 5000 series aluminum. ![]() There is now a wide array of diameters and widths that fit 98% of the tires available for performance vehicles. Speaking of hardware would you build a race car chassis by bolting it together or wouldn’t you just trust the strength of welding? Sizes and offsets. 2pc wheels in most cases can be made lighter due to the lack of hardware. 2pc wheels are pound for pound stronger and outperform 3pc wheels in cornering and radial fatigue tests. Contrary to some of the information that is being thrown around out there about 3pc wheels being better than 2pc, 2pc welded construction wheels are far superior to 3pc wheels for a number of reasons. If your looking for the ultimate performance wheel set up look no further. Shown above are a pair of brushed center polished outer PT-01 in 19×8 and 20×12. Originally part of our Multi-Piece Forged series the PT-01 and the rest of our Pro-Touring line cater to lightweight designs, performance brake clearances, and a wide array of sizes and backspaces. Read the US based hot rod & custom press and they reall poo-poo a lot of what comes off those shows and the internet jabber and speculation which surrounds it.We have been catering to the Pro-Touring market long before that term for the latest automotive segment even existed. Thats why I hope guys like Trepanier keep away from the TV contracts. Then we start calling them sellouts and fakers and we "lose our respect" for them etc. ![]() Now the TV shows can either put presenters in who aren't car guys and we call "yah boo, they aren't real car guys, they are just TV presenters" or they pay in some real guys from the industry to make the shows and lend a name. Either the "he doesn't know his car has been taken for a rebuild / back in a week" cack or the put on hystrionics of "lets see who can have the most ridicuously OTT argument this week" but its all just for the TV. For why? Because a genuine car-guy show will have too limited an audience so they have to fake them. ![]() Now this is a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation. I've read a couple of magazine features on cars built by Boyd's place in the show and they say it was nothing like what was shown on TV.įor whatever reasons either business or ego the two guys are playing parts on a TV show. ![]()
